Jeff, all the Prime bikes after Jan 2021 come standard with Shift Sensor. Most of the reviews are from the bikes before that date; there are thousands of bikes, of course.

After adding the shift sensor and changing some of the drivetrain components, we barely had this issue again.

One thing that you need to bear in mind is that the shift sensor protects the drivetrain when you're shifting however, it cannot detect if you're in the correct gear when you start riding and if you're on the highest PAS/Sport mode.

Here are some riding tips:
- Don't start from the highest gear (same for the non-ebikes)
- Don't start on PAS 3 or higher
- Don't start full-throttle

You don't start driving your car from gear 5 or full-throttle, do you? :)

Hi I'm just kinda thinking the same stuff. I think about when riding a peddle bike, I always ease up and "feel" the gears shift before returning to full power when shifting (up and down shifting) when riding hard. I am planning on doing the same but I would hope a sensor would do the same with the motor. So then there would be two sources of control on power to the drive train, one softening the human power input and one doing the same for the electric power input (that I assume a person could not regulate electric input as well as a electric sensor). Between the person and the motor there is a lot of power going through a transmission design that was originally built for just human power. I do think it will probably work great though.

Hey Patrick. I assume from what you wrote that you do not have your Prime yet, right?  I was told on this forum by a Nireeka rep previously that the Prime HAS a shift sensor, but VERY recent reviews on YouTube suggest otherwise b/c they keep warning of drive train strain.  I am not sure what to believe, but I know I don't want to snap my chain.  lol Luckily I have a little time to figure it out as my Prime has just been packaged and shipped a few days ago.

I am still waiting for my bike. Following the estimated time sheet my bike should be going through customs. I talked with people who have ridden mid drive bikes and loved it. They didn't have any problems. I just read Max's reply and am glad to know there is a sensor. I think these things are going to be awesome. I think a lot of times people don't think about how to operate machines. Proper input gets max performance and reliability. I hope to be off road trail riding in the snow in Minnesota very soon 🙂  Happy trails.

I am confused about something. If the Prime comes with a shift sensor (which shuts the motor off when shifting), then doesn't that prevent the excessive strain on the chain? I watched a lot of Youtube reviews, and read the comments, and that is what everyone worries about re. high torque mid drive motors - the strain on the chain when shifting.

Maybe this is only a concern when shifting while using the throttle, but not when using pedal assist?  Can anyone explain this to me please?  It seems a bit contradictory, but I realize I may just be confused about the function of the shift sensor.   I just want to make sure I don't ride in such a way as to lead to excessive risk of snapping my chain and having to walk my bike home (after it arrives).

I received the Torque Sensor Package today, but it did not come with any installation instructions.
Do you have any instructions or videos to help me with the installation process?

Dammit. Still leaves a 1mm gap between the bottom bracket frame and the RHS lockring. Maybe spacers are needed on both sides... I dunno.  Buy a motorbike

So I'm biking home tonight... and this thing shows up out of nowhere.   I now know that I can forcefully bunny-hop the Nireeka Homie in a pinch.   Emergency hopping a combined ~114kg (250lbs) was not fun, but I am not dead, and the bike took it like champ.   Almost 1000km ...

Chassis Robustness & Emergencies

If you have a Bosch e-bike light kit, keep in mind that turning on the headlight also turns on the backlight at the same time. It uses a single switch to control both lights. 1. Locate the (+) button on one of the handlebars, next to the tiny LCD monitor. 2. To turn on the light, press and hold the (+) button for no more than three seconds.
